ABOUT THE MAKER Mat-weaving is a tradition that has been passed down in the Adona family for almost 20 years. The Bayong tote bag is made by a community of weavers organized by the Adonas from Samar Island in the Philippines. They reside in a town called Basey, one of the most heavily affected areas by Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Through support from local NGOs and small businesses, the mat-weaving industry is slowly being revived and livelihood of the weavers sustained.
